Shutters that look built in
Shutters are fitted into the window frame rather than hung above it. They sit flush and read as joinery, and they add to the look of the house from the street as well as from inside.
They also cost the most of our three main products. People often ask us to quote a full house before they have any idea what one costs, so the real prices are further down this page.
Plantation shutters, timber and polymer
When people ask us for shutters, this is usually what they mean: the standard interior shutter.
Wide horizontal blades set in a frame, tilted with a rod or a hidden tilt mechanism. Fully closed they block almost all the light. Tilted half open, they take the glare off the room and leave you the view.
The lighter option, and the one that suits living rooms and bedrooms. It takes a paint or stain finish and it looks like joinery.
A moisture-resistant composite. Heavier, more durable, and the right answer anywhere there is steam or damp. It will not warp, split or swell.
We will tell you which one your room needs rather than quoting the dearer one by default.

Aluminium shutters for outdoors and wet areas
Powder-coated aluminium, built for weather.
These go where timber and polymer cannot: outside on a patio or balcony, over an outdoor kitchen, on a west-facing window that cops sun and salt air all day. Around the lake and out towards the coast that matters more than it does inland.
They also work as a privacy screen without looking like one.
PVC and polymer shutters for bathrooms and laundries
Any room that gets steam in it needs a waterproof shutter: bathrooms, ensuites, laundries and the window above a kitchen sink. A timber shutter in a bathroom will eventually swell and stop closing properly. A polymer one will not, and it wipes clean.
They come in white and off-white finishes, which is what almost everyone picks for a wet area anyway.
What shutters actually cost in Newcastle
Here is the ballpark before we come out.
The number of windows moves it most: a three-bedroom house with standard windows sits near the bottom of that range, and a house with floor-to-ceiling glass sits near the top. Size matters too, because shutters are priced by the square metre. One large window can cost more than three small ones. Timber and polymer sit at different price points, with aluminium for outdoors different again.
If you have seen two or three thousand dollars online for a house of shutters, that figure comes from national price guides based on a small home with entry-level product.
What you get for it. Polymer shutters carry a thirty year warranty. Panel structure is covered for fifteen years, hinges and tracking for five.
The measure and quote cost nothing.
$6,000 to $18,000
What a full house of shutters usually lands between, measured, made and fitted.
Priced by the square metre and itemised room by room, so you can see exactly where it goes.
Australian made in two to three weeks or imported in eight to ten
We supply both.
2 to 3 weeks
Australian made
From the day you accept the quote.
8 to 10 weeks
Imported
Usually cheaper, and a lot longer to arrive.
That is not a small gap. It can be the difference between a house finished for Christmas and one that is not. A rental can sit empty for several extra weeks waiting on imported shutters.
Imported shutters are usually cheaper. If you are working to a date, the saving may not be worth the wait. We’ll quote your job and tell you which one we’d pick.
Plantation shutters for the whole house around Lake Macquarie
On a renovation or a new build, the windows are often the last job left. Doing them all at once works out cheaper per window than going room by room, and it is one install instead of four. The blades and finishes match from room to room too.
It does not have to be shutters everywhere. Plenty of people put them across the front, where the house is seen from the street, with blinds across the back. We measure every window on the one visit and itemise the quote by room, so you can see what each part costs and decide where the split makes sense.
Shutters and young children
Shutters have no cords and no chains. There is nothing hanging that a toddler can reach.
Corded blinds are supplied with the safety devices required under the Australian standard, fitted as part of the installation. Shutters need none of it.
How a shutter job runs
You get in touch
Send the form or ring us. We get back to every enquiry by the next working day.
We take the check measure at the quote
We come out and measure every window. This is the check measure: the exact measurement the shutters are made to and where the fit is won or lost. It happens at the quote, before you have agreed to anything. The sample range and the finishes come with us, and we can leave them with you if you want time to look at them in your own light.
A quote for the whole job, itemised by room
You see the total before you commit to anything.
The order goes in
Two to three weeks for Australian made, eight to ten for imported.
We install them
Fitted into the frame and cleaned up on the day.
Why the check measure happens at the quote, not after. This business started because a large company took a deposit on one of our own properties, quoted six weeks, and had not done the check measure two weeks in. The six weeks only started from the check measure, and the house sold before the blinds arrived.
If a slat breaks, we come back
A shutter blade broke on one of our jobs. Somebody in the house had caught it, and the warranty does not cover accidental damage. We drove out and swapped it anyway. It was a two-minute job, and we did not charge for it.
30 years
Polymer shutters
Aluminium is ten, dropping to two in a coastal or high-corrosion spot. Timber is five.
15 years
Panel structure
Hinges and tracking are covered for five, and painted or stained finishes for five against cracking, peeling and hazing.
12 months
Our installation work
Everything we fit is covered for a year from the day it goes in.
Accidental damage sits outside all of that. Ring us anyway and we’ll come and look.

I couldn’t be happier with the service and workmanship. I initially had my roller blinds installed and was so impressed with the service that I had Ben return to install Ziptrak awnings, front security doors and sliding security doors. From start to finish, he was reliable, professional and very competitive on price. The attention to detail and quality of workmanship were fantastic, and everything was completed to a very high standard. I live in Carrington and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for quality work, great service and a tradesman who genuinely takes pride in what he does. I’m extremely happy with everything he has done for my home. Highly recommended!Posted on Google![]()

Plantation shutter questions: cost, lead time and materials

Not sure what you need?
Ring us and describe the room. It is a two minute conversation and it is the one we have most often.
0427 626 518 Get my free quoteHow much do plantation shutters cost?
A full house usually lands between $6,000 and $18,000. What moves it most is how many windows you have, how big they are, and whether you go timber, polymer or aluminium. The two or three thousand you may have seen online assumes a small house and entry-level product. The measure and quote are free and itemised room by room.
How long do shutters take?
Australian made is two to three weeks from the day you accept the quote. Imported is eight to ten weeks. We supply both and will tell you which we would pick for your job.
Timber or polymer?
Timber for living rooms and bedrooms, where it looks like joinery and takes a paint or stain finish. Polymer anywhere there is moisture, so bathrooms, ensuites, laundries and above the kitchen sink. Timber in a bathroom will eventually swell and stop closing properly.
Can shutters go outside?
Yes, in powder-coated aluminium. They handle weather, sun and salt air, and they double as a privacy screen. Timber and polymer are for inside only.
What is the warranty on shutters?
Polymer is covered for thirty years. Aluminium is ten, dropping to two in a coastal or high-corrosion spot. Timber is five. The structural integrity of the panels is covered for fifteen years, hinges and tracking for five, and painted or stained finishes for five against cracking, peeling and hazing.
Our own installation work is covered for twelve months. Accidental damage is outside the warranty. Ring us anyway and we'll come and look.
Are shutters safer than blinds for young children?
Yes. Shutters have no cords or chains, so there is nothing hanging within reach. Corded blinds are supplied with the safety devices required under the Australian standard, fitted as part of the installation.
Do you do shutters for rental properties?
Yes, though most agencies go with blinds because they are quicker and cheaper per window. Property managers across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie use us, and we carry $20 million public liability. If a property has a date to meet, ring us.
Can I see the finishes before I decide?
Yes. We bring the sample range and the finishes to your place so you can see them in your own light, and we will leave samples with you for a few days if you want to sit with them.
Do you charge for a quote?
No, and there is no deposit to get a price either. You only pay once you have said yes.
